September 26-28, 2023 Apples Week 2

Happy Thursday Families! We completed our apple unit this week by reading The Appple Pie Tree, Apples, and Ten Red Apples.  We painted red circle apples at the easel, made apple pie with red play dough and plastic apples, played a numeral to quantity apple tree counting game, cut an apple down the middle to see the special core and 'star' inside and then stamped the apple halves in paint to create an apple collage, used scissors to cut out apples, and completed self portraits. Our focus during Second Steps was self talk - talking to yourself in a quiet voice or inside your head.  We learned that self talk helps us focus and pay attention.  The letter of the week was E.  During Music we sang some of the songs we've learned the past few weeks, learned a new song titled "Fall Leaves are Blowing," and danced with scarves.  During Art, we mixed red and yellow paint to create orange and painted pumpkins. See you next week!

September 19-21, 2023 Apples

Hello Families! This week our theme was apples, and the letter of the week was F.  This week we sponge painted apple trees, played an apple counting game, and painted paper plates to make apples.  We read Apple Farmer Annie and The Biggest Apple Ever  and learned a poem called "Counting Apples."  During Second Steps, we practiced focusing our attention by playing a special group game and using our "attentoscopes." We learned that we have to use our eyes, ears, and brain to help focus our attention.  During Music, Ms. Li taught us a song about peace titled "Peace Building" along with hand and body motions, and in Art, we painted over the line creations from last week.  We will continue our apple unit next week. Have a great weekend!
