December 12 - 14, 2023

 Good Afternoon! This week our theme was holiday fun, and the letter of the week was J. During the Second Steps lessons, The Dragonflies learned that they can sometimes have strong feelings and they have learned to recognize and name their feelings of frustration. They can put their hands on their tummy, take deep breaths, and say stop to help them begin to calm down. During Center Time The Dragonflies used red and white beads to create a pattern to make a candy cane, painted a candy cane using paint and a red and white patten, made winter trees using paint and circles, and started making hand print ornaments. We read How to Catch a Reindeer, Llama Llama Holiday Drama, and The Night Before Hannukah. During Music Ms. Li taught us a song called 'Jingle All the Way' and The Dragonflies rang special sleigh bells and galloped like reindeer, and in Art we made made special winter snowflakes and winter-snowflake collages. 

December 5 - 7, 2023

 Hello Families! The theme of the week was gingerbread, and the letter of the week was S. Our December character trait of the month is caring - being kind, using nice words, and helping others. What a perfect trait on which to focus this time of year. During Second Steps, we learned that we have clues from our bodies that help us identify feelings both comfortable and uncomfortable. The Dragonflies know that they can talk to a grown up whenever they are feeling uncomfortable or worried. The Dragonflies made gingerbread man creations, made gingerbread cookies using brown model magic, built various houses and other structures for our classroom gingerbread man, used glue to trace and glitter gingerbread men, painted gingerbread men at the easel, and played a gingerbread house-candy counting game. We read Ten Little Gingerbread, Gingerbread Baby, and The Gingerbread Man. During Music, Ms. Li we played a freeze dance game featuring Jack Frost and Elsa and sang a song called "Let's Put on our Warmies," and during Art we created snowy trees.
