March 26 - 28, 2024

Welcome Back Families! We had a great first week back to school after Spring Break! Our theme this week was spring, and the letter of the week was X. During Second Steps, we continued to learn about problem solving, and that a big part of problem solving is coming up with solutions. The Dragonflies came up with solutions to various problems. We will be putting this strategy into practice quite a bit. This week The Dragonflies made spring colored paper chains, watercolored blooms for the seasons tree, created our own garden and flowers using plastic leaves, stems, and petals, and started making paper plate suns. We read When Spring Comes, The Thing About Spring, and Spring is Here. During Music, Ms. Li taught us a new song titled "Shake a My Egg" while we shook egg shakers, and we practiced rhythmic patterns using drum sticks.

March 12 - 14, 2024

Hello Families! This week we began our construction unit, and the letter of the week was N. During Second Steps lessons, The Dragonflies practiced noticing and offering ideas for play and came up with several positive ways to join in play with other students.  The Dragonflies rolled various car and truck wheels in paint, played with various tools and tool tables, and played with gravel and diggers in the sensory bin.  We read Donald Dump Truck, Mighty Mighty Construction Site, and Dalmation in a Digger. Ms. Li taught us a few Irish songs and we played the drumsticks as well, and in Art we completed our self portraits.

March 4-6, 2024

Good Afternoon Families! We completed our transportation unit this week, and the letter of the week was M. Our new character trait for the month of March is patience - waiting your turn peacefully. During our Second Steps lessons, The Dragonflies learned how to invite others to join in play and that inviting others to play helps everyone feel welcome and a part of the classroom.  The Dragonflies used various geometric blocks to complete different modes of transportation puzzles, played a parking lot game using dice and toy cars, dipped sponges in paint to create trains, and used magna tiles and paper shapes to build and create various forms of transport. We read Pete the Cat's Train Trip, If I Built a Car, and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. We did not have Music this week, but in Art we started working on our self portraits after reading The Colors of Us.
