October 3-5, 2023 Fall

Hello Families! This week our theme was fall, and our focus letter was H.  During Second Steps, The Dragonflies learned that listening and following directions helps us learn, and that repeating directions helps us remember them.  We also learned our new character trait for the month - friendly.  Being friendly means asking friends to play and cooperating with friends. We will brainstorm ways to be friendly to one another this month and follow through with those ideas. The Dragonflies painted fall leaves for our seasons tree, learned the four seasons and completed a puzzle for each season, identified the letters in our first names and wrote them for our fall name sample, made leaves with play dough and cookie cutters, worked on our fine motor skills by using tongs to pick up fall leaves in the sensory bin, used paint rollers to make a fall colored collage, and  colored, cut, and glued fall leaves on to construction paper. We read Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, Pete the Cat Falling for Autumn, and There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves. The Dragonflies celebrated Apple Crunch Day on Thursday by selecting and eating some delicious apples, and we made a special card for our custodians to thank them for everything they do to help us and our school. During Music, we danced with scarves pretending they were fall leaves blowing in the breeze and learned an apple tree song, and in Art we read Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn and made jack-o-lanterns.
